Content & Cozy as a Cat

Interesting title I know. But this morning as I was enjoying my coffee, my kitten, Cosmo jumped up next to me, plopped himself down on me, and quickly chirped in a state of total contentment as he lazily dozed off. And it just hit me, how easy it was for him to jump up next to his person and be content in the closeness; how much easier should it be for us to do the same with Jesus?

I think sometimes we try to overcomplicate something that really is quite simple. Jesus just wants us to come to him, in any state, He doesn't have requirements that we have to have it all together or need to have a certain agenda in order to spend time with him. A few scriptures and or pictures that come to mind are these, in Matthew 19 there's a scenario where Jesus is healing and speaking to those who want to listen, and parents start bringing their children for Jesus to touch and heal. His disciples started to scold the parents and tell them that they were bothering Jesus with the children, to which Jesus scolded his disciples and told them to let the children come to him without interference as Heaven is composed of those with child-like faith. Another scripture that comes to mind is in Matthew 11, Jesus tells us to come to him all who are exhausted and burdened. He wants to offer us a place to rest and be refreshed, and I most certainly don't hear any agenda in that except to just come to Him.

As I'm sitting here writing this, Cosmo is blissfully content just cozying up next to me. He doesn't demand all that much attention, but when he does, I am quick to give him some pets and words of affirmation because animals are smart yall, and they need verbal love too! It makes me chuckle because now I'm picturing myself with Jesus, curled up on His big comfy couch with him, drinking my iced coffee while happily content in His presence. And when I do make conversation with him, He is quick to give me His attention and speak lavished words of love over me. It's that simple, friends. Learning to be content next to Jesus, even if the kids are throwing toys all over the place, you have dishes in the sink, or you're just in a weird emotional funk, it doesn't matter. He just wants your time and your company. Nothing that's out of reach or that you can't offer. I want to learn to be as content and cozy with Jesus, just as my cat is next to me. As fall brings forth its cozy nature (well maybe not to Texas, but you get the point) let's take a moment to slow down as well, and get comfy and cozy with Jesus today.
